Holds

A hold on a student’s records occurs when a student has failed to make an appointment by their allotted time, has failed to keep their appointment, has not completed their community service hours, or has failed to pay restitution. The hold will be lifted once the student has complied with the directives from the Office of Student Conduct & Ethical Development.

Student File

The student file is retained for a minimum of seven years from the day it was initiated. The student file is expunged after seven years. If a student is suspended from the university, the file is kept permanently. A permanent notation will be made on the student’s record if he or she is expelled from the university.

FERPA

Student files are confidential and the confidentiality is governed by strict federal law (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act or FERPA ). The Office of Student Conduct & Ethical Development cannot release a student's discipline information to anyone without the student's permission. The CSU student disciplinary process requires that alleged victims of sexual assault or physical abuse be notified of any disciplinary action taken.
