Group CounselingGroup counseling is available to all students of San José State University . It is an alternate way to explore various issues with personal counselors and peers. Group counseling is a safe environment to explore thoughts and feelings with others who are experiencing similar challenges in their life. Research concluded that students who attended groups consistently found that groups helped them:
Sessions are led by one or two personal counselors who adhere to the legal and ethical standards of mental health professionals. There is no session limit for attending group counseling. If you are interested in participating in a group, please review the groups available below. Read the descriptions of the group and schedule an appointment with the assigned facilitator(s).
Groups Available for Fall 2008 Creative Healing—A group for survivorsTo grow, to learn, to heal… through various art materials (collages, pencils, crayons... no artistic experience necessarily). Call Wei-Chien or Ellen for appointment. Fridays, 11:30am-12:50pm, starting 9/26/08.Deal Me In!—Men’s GroupA supportive group for men to discuss relationship issues, family and gender expectations, and other male concerns while playing a friendly game of cards. Call Kell or David E. for appointment. Fridays, 11:30-12:20pm, starting September.
LGBTQQI Support Group A supportive, empowering, confidential environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and intersex SJSU students to share, discuss, and explore their personal experiences. Call Angela Krumm for info. Days and time TBD, starting September. Admin 201 Women’s Growth GroupLearn skills to build and deepen various relationships, explore ways to increase your self esteem while exploring gender roles and expectations and body image struggles, etc. Call Ellen or Ashley for appointment.
